Professional Proofreading and Editing

You’ve just finished your 50,000-word novel manuscript for NaNoWriMo, but you’re uncertain about whether it’s any good. You need a professional’s advice on how to turn your first draft into a coherent story that will affect your readers’ emotions.

That’s where I come in.

I’m a freelance proofreader based in Montreal. So many writers and students send their work out before it is ready. Don’t get caught with an embarrassing typo on pg.5! Let me help refine and clarify your writing.

I provide proofreading services to academics as well. I have proofread academic papers as a research assistant at McGill University and as an online tutor. I am familiar with MLA, APA, Chicago, and Harvard referencing styles. To see my full credentials, consult my LinkedIn page.

Services:

I proofread all forms of fiction and nonfiction. My rates are as follows:

Proofreading fee: $3/page

Copyediting fee: $4/page

(1 page = 250 words, or 12 pt. Times New Roman, double spaced)

I can also provide 2-4 page substantive critiques of your short story or novel’s plot, structure, and characterization. The rate for these critiques is $3.50/manuscript page. You will receive a pdf of my critique giving feedback and suggestions.

Testimonials:

Matthew Timmins, self-published author:

“Matthew edited my novel, The Miseries of Mr. Sparrows, and did an excellent job. His work was competent, professional, and timely. I was very happy with the results and have no hesitation in recommending Mr. Rettino as a proofreader and a copy editor.”

Ursula Sportelli, holistic health practitioner:

“Without judgment, Matthew tutored and guided me in the art of creative writing. I appreciated his patience as he continues in answering any question I have regarding the mysteries of writing.”
